HUMOR

I think I have a pretty good sense of humor. I believe I get that from how God created my parents and it pretty much runs in my family. Most people who know me would probably agree with me --- well, at least I hope so! I like to laugh and I believe it’s actually good for me. I find it rather difficult to be around people who are always so serious, perhaps even afraid to laugh. You know, people who can’t seem to find humor in much of anything --- including themselves. That’s really too bad and, actually, pretty sad. Honestly, I think it’s best not to spend much time with people who bring me down.

I believe God created our emotions and has a sense of humor Himself. His Word seems to confirm that in these scriptures:

Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”

(NKJV)

Proverbs 17:22 “Happiness is good medicine, but sorrow is a disease.” (ERV)

Psalm 126:2“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." (NKJV)

Some of my fondest memories involve being with friends and/or family and laughing about something so hard I cried. I really can’t worry about something and laugh at the same time, can I? Those “gut” laughs are therapeutic -- containing healing qualities that I think were created by God for that purpose!

I can remember sometimes being struck by something so funny that I’d laugh for a long time, stop for a few moments and then start all over again. There is such a “release” in that. My youngest son seems to like that when it happens because he starts laughing as well ---- although I do think he may just be laughing at me, not necessarily what I found funny!!

Animals can make me laugh --- especially my goofy dog. Wildlife can do strange and funny things. My grandkids make me laugh. If I am open to it, I can find humor just about anywhere. I can go to a funny movie; read a funny book; go to a comedy club; hang out with people who make me laugh.

After I wrote this, I decided to search the Internet and I’m sharing a couple articles I found. There are more out there if you’re interested in doing your own search.

The bottom line is this……laughing makes me feel better. I recommend you try it and try it often. I believe He designed it with intent and power to heal!
